Curves and Weight Loss
The Curves program helps promote weight loss by guiding women through a series of phases:
- Phase 1
Dieters follow a high protein and reduced carbohydrate and calorie diet. In addition, dieters implement an exercise regimen of working out for 30 minutes 3 times per week. During this first phase, lasting approximately two weeks, many women report a weight loss of 5 to 10 pounds. - Phase 2
In phase 2, dieters can begin to increase their caloric intake, while continuing to exercise for 30 minutes 3 times per week. Dieters can remain in phase 2 for as long as they choose, or until their desired goal weight is achieved. - Phase 3
Dieters begin to boost their metabolisms in phase 3 by increasing their food intake. Curves does not promote short-term and/or “fad” diets, so members should monitor their weight gain and limit any potential weight gain to a maximum of a few pounds. To lose any pounds gained in this phase, dieters can simply follow the phase 1 portion of the Curves program for several days. Also during this phase, dieters should continue to exercise 3 times a week for 30 minutes.
The Curves Facilities
Curves gyms are generally small with basic workout facilities that offer women a pre-planned 30-minute circuit training session. These sessions are specifically catered to women who are unfamiliar with working out, as a recorded voice instructs women how long to exercise at each of the 8 to 12 machines in the circuit. Most facilities are open seven days a week, for approximately seven hours a day.
